MATERNITY SESSIONS INFO
Home Maternity shoots
Home shoots work well when what we wear evokes a sense of comfort and intimacy that we only experience in the safety of our own home.
In styling terms, this means comfortable, relaxed and yes, even slightly underdressed!
My favourite perk of shooting at home? OUTFIT CHANGES! On a home shoot, you will be able to easily(ish - there’s always a bump in the way, after all!) slip out of a dress and into another to give your images a new look. Who doesn’t love that?

Feminine and comfortable. On your shoot, you’ll want to look feminine as effortlessly as possible, and that’s particularly important in home shoots. For some women that may mean an open shirt over jeans; for others a floaty dress. Whatever your style, keeping it simple is key.
Dress light. Think about what you’d wear outside and strip it down a notch. Shoes? Ditch them. Jewellery? Only small, dainty pieces. Tights? No need, yay!
Crank the heating up, dress light and ditch the layers and accessories. Trust me, it works a charm!
Earthy tones. Colours that are earthy and more muted will work well in almost all settings without stealing the attention away from you, the real star of the show!
Choosing all earthy tones makes it also easier for multiple people to easily coordinate their outfits. Win win!
No shoes. Barefoot or cosy socks are the way to go for a true intimate and feminine look.
Jewellery: Keep it at a minimum for an effortlessly-styled look.
Show some skin. Showing skin in a home shoot creates a true sense of comfort and intimacy. The baby bump will look 100% better bare than covered up in clothes, and you’ll look like the powerful gooddess you are.
Showing skin can mean different things to different women. Some women may be comfortable with an artistic implied nude; some may prefer underwear, or jeans & an open shirt over a bra; others will only be comfortable showing off the bare bump. That’s ok. Go with your own comfort level, but don’t be afraid to try something different. I’m here to guide you to amazing images you’ll look at in wonder for decades to come.
Outdoor Maternity shoots
Most of what we said about home shoots remains true for outdoor maternity sessions - usually minus the no-shoe advice!
In outdoor maternity sessions it’s important we create a sense of connection with our natural surroundings. A few simple wardrobe tips will guarantee that you’ll look like a meadow goddess - effortlessly, obvs.

Earthy tones. These natural colours will allow you to beautifully blend in with your natural surroundings and create images that tell a cohesive story.
These tones make the job of coordinating different people outfits much easier as they always go well together!
Feminine and comfortable. Avoid tailored clothes like suits and blazers, and opt for floaty dresses with a nice fit around your tummy, cosy sweaters, or denim sets with relaxed shirts on top.
Dress as light as the weather allows. Even though we are outdoors, and even in the colder months, consider not wearing too many layers to really show off the beautiful shape of your body. Ditch the coat, and opt for a cosy sweater or invisible layers under your dress (your maternity leggings will make their out-of-the-house debut).
Shoes. Flats or boots are what works best in natural locations. Can you imagine walking on grass in high heels at 8 months pregnant? Me neither! In the warm months, and in locations that allow it, consider going barefoot. You’ll get a true Mother Nature look!
Jewellery. Jewellery is best to be kept minimal and dainty to avoid an ‘overdressed’ look.
Bare skin. Bare skin goes a long way in creating a sense of effortless femininity in a shoot. And it doesn’t have to be much. Think bare bump, a naked shoulder, a leg sticking out of a dress. If you’re comfortable and the weather allows some bare skin, you’ll give an instant ‘goddess’ feel to your images that, I promise you, you’re going to love.
